Actor Biography
Terence Stamp was born in 1939 in London, England. His first big break was in 1962, when his performance as a naive sailor in Peter Ustinov’s Billy Budd earned him an Academy Award nomination. The following year he went to Hollywood to play the title role in William Wyler’s The Collector, for which he was awarded Best Actor at the 1965 Cannes Film Festival.
Roles in Modesty Blaise, Far from the Madding Crowd and Poor Cow cemented his reputation. He received critical acclaim for his performance as a ‘supergrass’ in The Hit and also appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey in a gangster part that was created especially for him by the director. More recently, Stamp has become known for his role as General Zod in the Superman movies and as the transsexual Bernadette in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Stamp's latest projects include Get Smart, Wanted and Valkyrie. He has also voiced the best-selling video game Halo 3.
